What’s motivating you right now?

February 7, 2022

The first question people often ask someone who has lost weight, found a new love, built a business or healed and grew through a life challenge is “How did you do it?”

They are incredulous, baffled, and yes, even envious….

And what they really want to know is whether that person has discovered a new and pain-free way to get fit, find that perfect relationship, build a company and get through challenges with minimal effort and self-exploration. Was it a pill? A special diet? An Instagram influencer? Some new get-rich-quick scheme? How about a spiritual guru that could take all your suffering away in one swoop?

And when they find out that the key to success was just clean eating and exercise, or healing yourself completely before getting out there in the dating world, or hiring the right team, coach, or finding a new kick-ass tribe, they are disappointed and think dejectedly; that will never be me. I could never do that.

And so I ask, why not? Why can’t that be you?

Why is it that so many of us resign to a less-than-optimal lifestyle? And more importantly, what is it that motivates the people who have succeeded in undergoing such a lifestyle transformation to live powerfully and tap into their inner greatness?

Wouldn’t it be great if we could “just do it”, as Nike proclaims? Why is it that some people are able to push through resistance to be their best where others fail to tread?

Understanding what will motivate you to transform your life oftentimes precludes the “just do it” mentality. We are motivated by all kinds of things: looking and feeling more attractive, impressing our friends and peers, proving to family that we have the willpower to succeed, etc.

But what do all these things have in common?

These are all extrinsic or external motivators that affect how other people perceive us.

And guess what? These external motivators are much less likely to stick because it is not enough to make the shift for someone else––we need to want it for ourselves from within ourselves.

“Unstoppability” doesn’t come from wanting to do all this work for someone else; it comes from YOU wanting it bad enough that you are going to attain it, whatever the cost in effort, exertion, or resources. Sure, you can be driven to get fit to spite someone–– someone calls you fat, your kid pokes at you, your partner eye rolls at you when you go for more dessert–– but none of these episodes are going to help you make lasting change.

You really have to want to do it for you.

Do you want it?

Next week, I am super excited to share with you the true place where transformation lies. It’s life-changing! I know you are going to love it!

Because just like the hundreds of clients I have worked within my group and one-on-one coaching, you too can apply these life-altering changes in your life.

Until next week, here are a couple of questions to consider:

1. What do you want? I mean really, truly want from the top of your head all the way to your toes?

Write a list in your journal or on your phone.

2. What do you truly want? Why is it so important that you get this thing? To fulfill this need or desire?

Now spend 5 to 10 minutes imagining what it will be like when you attain it. Go into detail in your mind and have fun with it!

Until next week, keep leaning in! You deserve to attain what your heart desires!

To your success!
