Quick question—are you actually ready for January… or just tired?
Because this in-between week has a funny way of making us think we’re supposed to have everything figured out. New goals. New habits. New life.
I’m not buying it.
I’m starting the new year the same way I start most meaningful things: by getting clear. No overhaul. No pressure. Just honest intention and steady momentum.
If that sounds like your kind of energy, you’re in the right place.
I’ve lived long enough, and rebooted enough chapters, to know this: big, dramatic reinventions rarely last. They look great on Instagram. They collapse by mid-February.
What does work?
Direction.
Intention.
And goals that actually fit real life.
I used to hit January 1st armed with color-coded post-its (my favorite), ridiculous timelines, and a slightly unhinged belief that this was the year I’d finally do everything just right.
Spoiler alert: it never lasted.
The years that truly changed my life didn’t start with fireworks. They started with honesty.
Questions like:
What am I actually willing to do consistently? What drains me that I keep pretending doesn’t?What would feel supportive instead of punishing?
That shift, from motivation to intention, is one of the reasons I coach and speak today. Because I’ve seen what happens when people stop forcing transformation and start choosing alignment.
Motivation is loud and proud.
Intention is steady and chill.
Motivation says, “Let’s go!”
Intention says, “Let’s be honest, what’s the right, best step.”
And honesty is where real momentum lives.
I see this play out with clients all the time.
Absolutely — here it is, clean and grounded, with **Sarah** named and the timeline updated.
---
My client client came to me last January completely exhausted.
She was frustrated with herself and convinced she was “bad at follow-through.” Every year, she set huge goals—early mornings, strict routines, total life upgrades, and every year, she burned out by February.
When we slowed things down and gained deeper clarity, the truth showed up quickly.
She didn’t need more discipline.
She needed direction that actually matched the season of life she was in.
So we simplified. One clear focus instead of ten. Support instead of self-punishment. And a better question: not “What’s wrong with me?” but “What would actually help me right now?”
By April, Sarah’s life looked very different.
Not because she forced change, but because she chose clarity. She was happier. More consistent. More confident. And for the first time in a long time, she trusted herself again.
That’s the power of intention over motivation.
}Name}, want to do the New Year resolution thing differently?
As the new year approaches, here are better questions than “What’s my resolution?”
Instead, try journaling on these:
What season of life am I actually in right now? What feels heavy that I don’t need to carry into the new year?Where am I trying to force change instead of listening for direction? What would support—not pressure—look like for me right now?If I chose one clear focus for the next few months, what would it be?What does “steady” look like for me in this season? What do I want to trust myself with again?
You don’t need a total overhaul to move forward.
Sometimes clarity does more than motivation ever could.

A New Beginning That Actually Sticks
The new year isn’t asking you to be someone else.
It’s inviting you to begin again, with perspective, intention, and a little sense of humor about how life actually works.
You don’t need to overhaul everything.
You just need a direction that feels right.
And if I’ve learned anything, as a coach, speaker, and human who has rebuilt more than once, it’s this:
The goals that last are the ones that motivate from the inside out.
Let’s start there.
