Ever felt like you’re stuck in the same loop, going through the motions without any real joy? You’re busy—your calendar is full, your to-do list never seems to shrink—but deep down, something’s missing. That spark you once had for your work, your relationships, or your personal passions feels like it’s flickering out.
I’ve been there.
There was a time when everything looked fine on the surface. I was checking all the boxes—family, business, goals—but inside, I felt like I was running on empty. Losing my son, Will, in 2017 left me shattered in ways I didn’t think I could recover from. I wasn’t just stuck; I was disconnected from the very things that once gave my life meaning.
But through that pain, I learned something powerful: Being stuck isn’t a sign of failure—it’s a signal. A sign that it’s time to pause, take a deep breath, and reconnect with what really matters.
This post isn’t just about finding your way back to productivity—it’s about reigniting that sense of connection, the kind that makes you feel alive again. And yes, you can actually have fun doing it.
🔥 How I Spotted My Own Burnout
At first, I didn’t even recognize it as burnout. I thought I was just tired or maybe needed a vacation. But the signs were there:
I was exhausted, even after a full night’s sleep. I felt numb to the things that used to bring me joy—conversations felt hollow, and my work lost its meaning. And then there was the guilt. I kept thinking, “I should be grateful. I should be stronger.”
But here’s the truth: You can’t pour from an empty cup. And feeling disconnected doesn’t mean you’re weak—it means you’re human.
💡 How I Found My Way Back (And How You Can Too)
The first breakthrough for me didn’t come from working harder or pushing through. It came when I allowed myself to get curious again.
I remember one afternoon, I was sitting outside, feeling completely drained, when a thought crossed my mind: What if I just did something small that brought me joy—without worrying if it was productive?
So, I picked up a journal and started writing—not for work, not for anyone else, but just for me. That small act of curiosity cracked something open. I wasn’t “fixed” overnight, but I felt something shift. A little bit of light in the darkness.
From there, I started focusing on three things that slowly helped me reconnect:
1. Curiosity: Following the Spark
Instead of trying to figure everything out, I started asking myself simple questions:
What feels good right now?
What’s something I’ve always wanted to try but never made time for?
It didn’t have to be profound. Sometimes, it was as simple as going for a walk without a destination or listening to music that reminded me of happier times. That curiosity pulled me back to the present and helped me rediscover joy in the little things.
2. Creativity: Letting Go of Perfection
I’ve always believed that creativity isn’t just for artists—it’s for anyone who wants to feel alive. For me, it started with writing, but maybe for you, it’s cooking, dancing, or just playing with your kids without looking at the clock.
The key was letting go of the idea that it had to “lead” somewhere. Not every action needs to be productive. Some things just need to be fun.
3. Commitment: Reconnecting With My Why
The hardest part was remembering why I was still showing up every day. After Will’s passing, my purpose felt shattered. But slowly, through small moments of connection—with my family, with my work, with my own heart—I started to piece that purpose back together.
I realized that honoring his memory didn’t mean living in pain. It meant living fully, with love, and serving others who might be feeling stuck in their own grief or burnout.
🌟 You’re Not Stuck—You’re Ready for a Reset
Feeling stuck doesn’t mean you’re lost forever. It’s just your heart’s way of saying, “Hey, something needs attention here.”
Start small. Follow your curiosity. Let yourself create without judgment. And most importantly, reconnect with your deeper purpose—whatever that looks like for you.
For me, every day is a choice to live with peaceful ambition—the balance between striving for more and being fully present in what I already have. That’s also the heart of my upcoming book, Peaceful Ambition, where I share more about my journey through loss, healing, and rediscovering joy.
If you’re ready to break free from feeling stuck, I’d love to help you take that next step.
